Commissioned Project for Reverend Robert & Myrna Hodge
step 5. in the Made 4 -U- series
COLOR
Meeting with the Client at certain stages of a project is important. Adding COLOR or half way completed, these are good check points.
Ideally, you would come to my studio (its' so fun☆!..I make tea or fresh juice, snacks, & art of course) ~but I have also done many projects without ever meeting the person face-to-face.
When Myrna first saw the painting she exclaimed, "NO color!! is it going to be all brown.?"
I assured her, this is just the beginning. (you know me -i L♡ve color).
We look through stacks of cards. This is a very revealing subject...
Color can be overwhelming. But once you start to see and feel, the connection is immediate.
Some people have colors they dislike (don't want to use those in their painting!).
or
Favorite colors, matching colors, meaningful colors..you colors.
Myrna picked out 5 color cards. These are not the only colors I will be using, but I will be sure to include them.
To ease the "NO color!!" concern, I began to demonstrate (paint+brush = show) how the painting will begin to look using only the colors she selected.

You will also notice from the initial sketches that changes have been made,
there's a bench!
When meeting, I want to make sure they are Happy with the foundation-(step 4. Shape, Mass, & Space) of the painting. This way when I start to add color there should not be any major changes>>like move the fountain across the courtyard..
(please note: I worked at Novo Arts, Inc. NYC. I had to be able to paint fast (&furious)- also accurate, anything! that came to any ones mind... great experience. and an incredible "Devil wears Prada" of a boss.)
ok. We decided to add a bench. There will be change, that is certain. I like to decide together so the end painting is their vision, helped by me.
Made 4 U : "Special Place" series, *stay updated* please join me.
secret; notice in the top photo, I include scissors><, my paint tubes were sealed by the Caribbean environment-sunsandwater- not even pliers could remove the caps. scissors and a chopstick were the only trick. otherwise. Windsor and Newton oil paints, a few more brushes, maroger, thank you,
