Creating a -Pictorial Map- for a "Special Place" Painting
Communicating clearly is essential. I listen. And I ask questions.
Once the Client & myself decide on price, medium, size and subject, we continue to define the project. Myrna begins with a description she sees in her mind of her "Special Place".
There is a door, a pathway, a water fountain, warm orange,,, she visited a place in Mexico.
Soon, I realize she is describing a Spanish-style courtyard.
what season is it?
Spring.
do you see the sky?
I don't know, but there is a building. And a lamp.
a lamp?
Yes, near the doorway there is a lamp post.
is it day or night?
Day, a beautiful day.
I understand perfectly, but to make absolutely sure, I create the above sketches.
It is a translation from words to pictures.
Make it clear.
The sketch should speak for itself.
Most likely you will not be there to describe in words what should be clear in symbols.
Once the initial composition is decided, the project continues.

step 1. in the Made 4 -U- series
Creating "Special Place" Paintings
Clients may have a specific image in their mind of a place or location that is known to them. It may be remembered from childhood, a vacation destination past, a favorite nature site, or simply a loved spot they wish to be.
Each person will have a unique desire for a commissioned art work, and yes! sometimes it is to match their couch. In this case, the battle is cancer. Myrna has an image in her mind that brings comfort, peace, relaxation, and escape.
My hope (and job) is to realize her vision.
She sees a path, where does it lead?
I will show how I complete this project, beginning with a blank canvas.
